Philosophy

Red Oak Yard Log Sawing, a partnership with Belle Grey Farm, provides customized log sawing and air dried lumber to small and medium business owners, landowners, homeowners and hobbyists. We focus on custom milling logs to suit every customer’s individual wood requirements for projects. We can also provide general information and guidance on the sustainability of logs to suit a specific purpose and milling approach.

Our approach is environmentally friendly and focuses on procuring logs from various sources that would be otherwise cut for firewood, shredded for mulch, or left to rot. We do not harvest timber from living and thriving trees, we instead have formed alliances with landowners and other resources to harvest already downed trees or trees that have been cut to clear land and reclaim them to the best of their ability. These logs are then milled and either air or solar kiln dried.

Grading Wood

Wood is graded and sold as “Best” (grades FAS and No. 1 Common) and Good (No. 2 AC and below). Based on the limited production of our milling operation grading every piece of wood is difficult, however, if you are looking for a particular species and size and grading is of relative importance we will look at the available stock and select pieces that meet your requirements if they are available in our inventory.

Our Equipment

We operate a Woodmizer LT50 Portable Sawmill with full hydrolics and the following features:

  1. Command and Control which includes Accuset 2 and Autoclutch
  2. Electric powdered debarker
  3. 51hp CAT Diesel engine
  4. Lubemizer
  5. Fine adjustable legs

Yard Log Sawing Products

Our two main products are:

  1. Custom log sawing at either Belle Grey Farm or the customer’s location using our high production portable sawmill. Jobs can be a small as a few hours or days at a time. Create your own customized lumber to your project specifications.
  2. Pre-cut wood either air or solar kiln dried to less than 10% moisture content level for use by woodworkers, custom cabinet makers, and homeowners.

Custom Milling Pricing

We operate with several pricing methods for custom log sawing:

  1. By the Board Foot
  2. By the Hour ($25 per hour)
  3. Based on Shares

Please note that a blade replacement charge ($20) may be applied to your order in the event that a blade is damaged by metal or other materials within the log.

Delivery - Our mill and storage operation is located at Belle Grey Farm and we operate on a 125 mile radius for on location and custom sawing. Travel charges apply for jobs outside a 25 miles from our mill location. A $2.95 per mile - one way charge from 33389 Piney Swamp Rd Upperville, VA 20184 will be assessed for delivery or custom sawing at your location. Use Google Maps or Map Quest for mileage. ($50 minimum)

Payment - Cash on Delivery or Visa/MC via PayPal prior to delivery

Pick-up - Pick up at our barn is by appointment only between 9AM to 3PM (Mon-Fri) and Sat-Sun (8am-6pm).
